It is with great pleasure that we can announce the official opening of the new play area at Gordon Road on Saturday 22nd December. Waterside Community Association (WCA) started the process of raising funds to refurbish the previously run down play area following requests from local residents. The play area has been designed especially with younger children in mind, who find the equipment too difficult to use at the Moor Road play area. The WCA was delighted that the Town Mayor was able to open the facility, despite the rain!

Working with local Councillors, Peter Hudson and Nik Stewert, the WCA successfully raised 60% of the funds needed to refurbish the play area and gratefully acknowledge the support from the Big Lottery (£10,000 grant) and Paradigm Housing Association (£5,000 grant). The remaining funding was secured from Chesham Town Council.

The photo shows the new play area and also the Chairman, Shane Willmoth with the Town Mayor and also a fellow WCA Committee member and local Minister for Christ Church Waterside, Sylvester Liyanage.

Bois Lane, Chesham Bois is to be closed between Woodside Avenue and Stubbs Wood, from Saturday 31 March until Sunday 15 April to allow work to replace a water main. National Grid may also be working on the same section of road.

Please note: This will affect bus services in the area. Services 71 & 73 will not be allowed through the works and will need to operate to the temporary timetable which you can access by clicking Bus Diversions.

Below is a summary of the information sent to Cllr Peter Hudson. This details the changes to bus routes in the area which will affect Waterside residents.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Peter.

Journeys from Chesham Broadway to Penn Street or Little Chalfont should divert as follows;

  • JOURNEYS NOT VIA CHESHAM MOOR

from Chesham Broadway, normal line of route to Red Lion Street, continue ahead at the Waterside roundabout, continue up the hill along the A416 Amersham Road, left into North Road, right into Glebe Way, to Anne’s Corner, and then normal line of route.

Vice versa for the return journeys.

  • JOURNEYS VIA CHESHAM MOOR

from Chesham Broadway, normal line of route to Red Lion Street and left into Waterside, (via Pheasants Rise if timetabled to do so), right into Bois Moor Road, left into Cresswell Road, back to Moor Road, left into Moor Road, left on to the A416 Amersham Road, left into North Road, right into Glebe Way, to Anne’s Corner, and then normal line of route.

Vice versa for the return journeys. Note – Journeys heading towards Chesham and operating via Chesham Moor will need to use Waterside to go to Chesham Moor because of the “No Entry” along Moor Road. Having turned at Cresswell Road they will again need to use Waterside to ensure the Chesham bound stops are served.

  • The turning point for journeys terminating/turning at Chesham Moor will be Cresswell Road. Buses should pull into Cresswell Road and then turn by reversing into Appletree Walk. The timetable should only allow sufficient time to turn the bus and head back. However, if you do need to wait please do so in Cresswell Road and not in Bois Moor Road where it can be very congested.

Journeys from Chesham Broadway to Chesham Moor/Pheasant Rise should operate as follows;

  • SHORT WORKINGS TO/FROM CHESHAM MOOR

from Chesham Broadway, normal line of route to Red Lion Street and left into Waterside, (via Pheasants Rise if timetabled to do so), right into Bois Moor Road, left into Cresswell Road.

Vice versa for the return journeys.

During this period Redline service 76 will not operate the short workings from Chesham Broadway to/from Pheasant Rise. Redline will instead operate service 72 the 09:00 ex Penn Street journey on the temporary timetable.

Veolia Water will be closing sections of road along Waterside  starting from Red Lion Street.

All residents should have received a notice from the WCA to advise of road closures and access into Waterside, which will be from the Latimer Road end initially.  As the work progresses access to Waterside for residents will be from either end, up to the works area.

NSL have been instructed not to enforce the partking restrictions along Waterside for the duration of the works, and Veolia will be making allowance for parking outside of their working areas.

The diversion route for the closure is in two parts:

  • Town bound: Moor Road – Amersham Road
  • Out bound: Buses only: Amersham Road – Moor Road

All other traffic: Amersham Road – North Road Chesham Bois – Bois Lane – Bois Moor Road – Moor Road.

The intention to suspend the one way system on Moor Road was discarded as feedback had been received regarding the tight bend by the workshop and parking on Moor Road, and so the diversion route as above is in state – this is the route normally used for closures in Waterside.
